What you will learn
About this course
In this series of Construction Project Management Fundamentals courses, you will learn how a building is put together -- from the ground up.
In this, our second of six courses, we take a closer look at different types of structures, their history, and the reasons they are used for certain projects. Students will learn about load paths and how forces are carried through structural elements to ensure stability and safety. This helps build a clear understanding of how structures work and why specific designs are chosen for different projects.
The course also covers the main materials used in construction, like concrete (cast-in-place and precast), steel, masonry, and tilt-up concrete. Students will explore the advantages and disadvantages of each material, along with important factors to think about when choosing the right one, such as cost and durability. Additionally, the course explains different types of cranes and gives examples of the kinds of projects each type is used for, making the concepts more practical and relatable.
In all of these Construction Project Management Fundamentals courses, you will learn about the sequence of construction and the relationships between all the different construction activities on site.
You will learn how a building is put together and how people work together to successfully complete a construction project.
